I can't do conservative

This is OPI Dazzle Me which is a very sheer silvery green. I usually put it over something. It looks really nice over the Orly creme greens and blues. I've put it over yellow too.

Today I have an important work meeting so I decided to go conservative.

I started with this which is Orly Sweet Blush.

It was streaky as all get out though. I kept adding layers when it wasn't dry enough and then I messed it up trying to do laundry. I thought I could fix the one nail, but the cotton ball got stuck on another nail and I just took it off. I think I might be nervous about my meeting.

I don't have a nail polish dress code at work (yet.) Thanks to me I think they have one on hair color. Sadly, pink is now not allowed. Unless you are OF A CERTAIN AGE. Cuz I've seen some funky hair on the menopausal ones who keep turning the heat down.

I learned my lesson when this dog

knocked my bottle into my lap when I was trying to polish in the living room. Polish on my expensive work pants. I can't even blame Joe. This is what Joe looks like when he's jumping on me. lol. Behind him is Patches, wearing her pretty cone. She goes through periods of chewing on her legs. She needs some animals to herd.

Katee gave tips for a good home manicure and nowhere did she say its a good idea to clutch the bottle between your knees in the living room where dogs are chasing the Kong. Or to apply multiple layers and then do laundry. You learn something every day.

I can't remember what I ended up wearing, probably OPI Parles vous opi, which is a mauve-family purple. Pretty. A little darker than probably considered "work appropriate," but I'm not in the business field so I don't have to worry about it too much. I'm middle management at a counseling and social work agency. My boss doesn't really like my style, but I don't have to change it or lose my job. She just gives me "feedback." To which I answer, "Thanks for sharing."

I don't have a lot of pics of my nails, but I'll get them up and running so I can put a pic for what I'm talking about. Now that I have the camera working and I'm getting better at it every day, I will build up an archive. Thanks for reading!!

Welcome to my blog

I have this color and it doesn't look like this! I wish it looked like this...

On me it just looks black and if you look really really closely, (doesn't matter, inside or outside) you might see a faint glimmer of reddish, but you have to know it's there.
This is Sally Hanson Glossy.

I had much better luck with a plain black topped with a black with red glitter in it. I'll post a picture of that as soon as I get a camera and all that. I'm jumping the gun a little bit, but wanted to get my blog going!!
I started reading nail polish blogs for two reasons:

1) Part of my job requires me being in the county jail and there is MRSA and boils and all kinds of nasty there. I had a bad habit of picking at my cuticles and always had bad hangnails and basically, open wounds. I decided to start taking care of my cuticles in order to make sure I stayed healthy.
2) My coworker loves girly girl stuff and always had the cutest colors of makeup and nail polish (and sunglasses and sparkly pens...) so I started wearing some different colors.

Then I just went all nuts and started reading about nail care and polish and the crazy continues. I read nail polish blogs and bookmark them and check them obsessively, so now I hope someone will check mine.

It's been great to find people with similar skin tone or nail problems and find out what they do.

A little nail polish bottle holder is an amazing and fun thing. This is tipped to one side and you can lay the bottle down in both directions depending on how much is left in it. This is really helpful when I'm running low on my base and top coats but don't want to give it up yet.

That's a cute bottle of cuticle oil there... It's called Hoof - Take the Plunge Cuticle Oil. Any cuticle oil will do...Sally Hanson has one that smells like Love's Baby Soft. Remember that from junior high?
